1st in a series of 200k brevets that will have around 11,000 feet in total elevation gain for those looking to experience what an SR-600 is like.

The Toughrider 200k route starts in Bonsall and heads north to De Luz. But at the intersection with Camaron Rd, you turn left to reach the famous/infamous Los Gatos Rd, where the kitty cats that anything but cute. Just under a mile, this climb boasts sections with grades in excess of 25%. The 2 two times I attempted this climb, I was forced to change into my feet gear and walked up this road. But after that moment of intense suffering, you'll be rewarded with a ride on quiet roads as you make your way further north. You'll eventually reach the Cleveland Forest Rd becoming Tenaja Truck Train that turns into a 4.5 mile section of gravel and dirt. Once you reach S Main Divide road which is paved, you'll meander your way to Hwy 74 (Ortega Hwy) where you take on a screaming descent to Lake Elsinore. Returning to Fallbrook again through Sandia Creek Rd, you head east and north again to Pechanga Pkwy where you will connect up to Pala Pechanga Rd. Then you'll ride on another short section of dirt on Lilac Rd just off of Hwy 76. After the last climb on the route, you'll descend on Circle R and return to the start on Camino Del Rey.

WARNING - There are long sections that are remote and have little to no services (from Fallbrook to Lake Elsinore, Pechanga to Pala and Pala to Old Hwy 395). You will need to manage that Occam's edge of just enough extra water to get you through these sections.

If rain or heat wave, will reschedule this ride to a later date in fall.
