This populaire ventures through San Diego's rich baseball history starting from Alesmith in Miramar. Heading out on Pomerado Rd in Scripps Ranch, you'll reach Ted Willams Pkwy (named after the famous San Diego native who was the last MLB player with a batting average over 400). Continuing through Poway, you'll reach Poway Lake and the Tony Gwynn Memorial. Known affectionately as "Mr Padre" for his life-long career with our team, he has set deep roots in the Poway community where he and his family lived throughout his life. To honor his Powegian connection, the community erected the Tony Gwynn Memorial at Lake Poway, where you will stop and check in as a control. You will continue your adventure south to reach North Park, passing by a house at 4121 Utah St where Ted Williams grew up and the "Ted Willams Field" in North Park Community Park, the Little League field where the legendary slugger started his career before becoming "The Splendid Splinter" making baseball history with the Boston Red Sox. The return route will be through Linda Vista and Kearny Villa Rd, finishing back at Alesmith. To celebrate our populaire, the game of baseball and the two legends who represent San Diego, we'll relax to the world famous .394 Pale Ale, named after Tony Gwynn's season ending batting average in 1994, the year he was projected to surpass the 400 mark last achieved by Ted Williams but was unfortunately denied due to the players' strike that shortened the season.
